CHILDREN'S
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS OF CONNECTICUT, INC. SCHOOLS
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission..
is to individually engage students and lead them in their educational
journey toward their highest social, emotional and academic potential.
The Children's Community Programs Schools provide quality educational
experiences, which encourage a successful return to the mainstream educational
environment by re-educating students within a safe and supportive environment
in close proximity to their homes.
Juvenile Justice
New Haven / Fairfield County
Principal, Roger Wiley 203-786-6403
Children's Community Programs Schools, in partnership with
host social services agencies Youth Continuum and Partners in Community,
provide quality education services for children placed by the Court
Support Services Division (CSSD) of Juvenile Matters who are considered "state agency placements" under Connecticut General Statutes
Section 10-186. The programs are juvenile alternative sanction programs
established by the General Assembly in 1995 to provide seven-day-per-week
services and supervision to juveniles who would otherwise be incarcerated
in a detention center or placed out of the community. The programs enroll
male and female clients between the ages of 10 and 16.
The schools are designed to educate students within safe
and supportive environments and to facilitate a successful return to
the mainstream environment upon completion of their judicial mandates.
The Community School curriculum is created individually by way of in-dept
student profile assessments and, if necessary, specific modifications
to the sending school district's general curriculum. Core curriculum
offerings include math, English/language arts, social studies, science,
health and physical education, as well as artistic expression and computer
technology. The student/teacher ratio is maintained at approximately
10:1., with additional support services of educational counselors, social
workers, and other related service providers as needed. A special education
teacher is employed at each location to ensure that the Individual Education
Programs (IEP) are appropriately implemented.
Currently, we are providing educational services in New
Haven County and in Fairfield County. The programs are regionalized and,
therefore, provide services for specific judicial districts.
Pathways Regional
290 Dodge Avenue
East Haven, CT 06512
203-468-5316
Principal: Robbin Golden
Pathways Regional is a special education and day treatment
program serving children and families living within the "shoreline"
region. Specialized educational services are provided for elementary
students (grades 1-6) middle school students (grades 7-8) and high school
(grades 9-12) students with severe emotional, behavioral and learning
difficulties.
Pathways Regional believes that in order to provide the
best possible educational services to its students, a partnership between
the school, the students, the families and the school district must
be established. This collaborative model enables the school to provide
direct access to the general curriculum, specialized programming (partial
mainstreaming and graduated transition back to the student's home school),
school lunch provisions, credited coursework involving community and
vocational placements, and collaborations with local social service
agencies.
The educational component provides accredited academic
instruction in all of the core subject areas: math, science/health,
social studies/history and English, as well as vocational education,
physical education, life skills education and computer skills education.
Students are also encouraged to engage in therapeutic recreation and
vocational placements within the community.
The clinical component offers individual and group counseling,
family counseling, psychiatric consultations and substance abuse education,
depending upon the particular student's needs and his/her I.E.P. (Individual
Educational Program). Parents too are encouraged to attend a monthly
"parent support group," which meets at the school in the evenings.
The school is regionalized and, therefore, provides educational
services only for special education students from East Haven, Branford,
Guilford, Madison and Clinton.
The Stratford School - New School
55 Sutton Ave, Stratford
203-385-4194
Principal: Barbara Feldman
The New School is a special education program serving
children and families from Stratford and the Housatonic "Valley"
Region. Specialized educational services are provided for elementary
students (grades 4-6) middle school students (grades 7-8) and high school
(grades 9-10) students with severe language and learning difficulties.
The New School program philosophy emphasizes that to provide
the best possible educational services to its students, a partnership
between the school, the students, the families and the school district
must be established. This collaborative model enables the school to
provide direct access to the general curriculum, specialized programming
(partial mainstreaming and graduated transition back to the student's
home school), school lunch provisions, and collaborations with local
social service agencies. The program has been a huge success in mainstreaming
students back to their public schools.
Within a safe and nurturing environment, the program utilizes
an intense sequential reading system and a multi-sensory approach to
advance the development of reading skills, while fostering a renewed
appreciation of the language arts. Each student's program is completely
individualized in order to maximize strengths and explicitly address
weaknesses.
In addition to the reading concentration, the educational
component provides accredited academic instruction in all of the other
core subject areas: math, science/health, social studies and English,
as well as physical education and computer skills education. For those
students who require additional supports, speech and language as well
as counseling services are provided by the Stratford School District.
.
The school is regionalized and, therefore, provides specialized educational
services for students from Stratford, Shelton, Ansonia, Derby, Seymour,
Oxford, Naugatuck, Prospect and Beacon Falls.
